Isn't it possible that nothing exists?

I think if you consider the word "nothing" and see that it comes from the word "thing' which can be any thing. On this table there is a thing. On that table there no thing.Rather to be more accurate - this table has a thing on it and the other table is empty. So the opposite of thing is emptiness.(The absence of a thing!) If you were to identify the thing by giving it a name such as calling it a book.Then you can say there is a book on that table. On the other table there is no book. By the same token there is no shoe, no ash tray, flower vase, etc. The table is merely empty.Just as the opposite of big is not small but rather is it is not big. The opposite of hot is not cold but not hot.
