I have hyperthyriodism and am trying for a child how safe is this?

doctor took me off my meds (toprozal) b/c it was decreasing my wbc, he then sugested i take the radioactive pill but thats a no go, cant have child for a year, other option is surgery....how safe is this to go from hyper to hypo. i really want to have a child before i consider anything but im not sure how safe it is for me and the unborn child. anyone ever gone through this
